My uncle Lou Penner was the steward on that ill-fated TCA. He was on his last work flight from Montreal to Vancouver before boarding with his wife for their first trip together to SK. Their first wedding anniversary was nearing and they wanted to meet members of Lou's family who had not been able to attend their BC wedding. They planned to spend Easter with us. We had met Lou once at the Saskatoon airport when his TCA made a brief stopover; he looked so handsome in his uniform standing in the doorway of the plane before take-off. I was 12 and Lou was a favorite uncle. I could hardly wait to meet his new wife! That was our last glimpse of him. How thankful we were later that we went to see him that day. My mother, who was pregnant with her 4th child, had been working hard to finish renovations to our farmhouse near Borden SK before their much awaited visit. On April 8th, my parents made the 1 hour trip to Saskatoon to do some last minute shopping before Easter. They had just walked through the door of my grandparent's home where they always stopped in on shopping days when news of the crash came over the radio. Though no names were given, my grandfather knew immediately that this was his son's flight. That August my brother Allen Lou was born. 49 years later, my mother passed away a few days earlier than medical staff had led us to expect. When we went through her things before the fun-eral we found a diary where she was remembering April 8th as the day of her brother's untimely passing. That was when we realized that she had left us shortly before midnight on the anniver-sary of her brother's death. Thank you for your book. My husband came upon it at the aviation museum in Winnipeg. Admin reply: Do you have a photo of Lou Penner? I may do a second volume and would appreciate a photo which I will return. Thank you for adding more detail. Are any of Lou's relatives still in Saskatchewan?

Having been raised in Moose Jaw until I was 16, and in school at that time (Prince Arthur) I remember the incident. I am very interested in purchasing your book. Do you foresee it being made available in digital format? (kindle) Admin reply: Sorry the book is not available in digital format. Red Deer Hobby has the book or you can email me for a copy. l.sha@sasktel.net

I have recently finished reading Larry Shaak's interesting book Mid-Air over Moose Jaw. Due to Larry's exstensive research I feel more informed as to what happened that day to my Uncle Allan Craig (TCA employee and passenger)and the 36 other souls that tragically lost their lives so long ago. My family never talked about the incident that I can recall, perhaps due to lack of factual information and a bit of old school not to discuss such tramatic things. Nice work Larry and thanks so much for the great book. Allan Scott Admin reply: Thank you for your comments and I am glad you enjoyed the book. I am free on weekends and will give free tours to family members which includes, the cairn, the crash site, the collision site and the art museum where there is an excellent display.

Let me introduce myself, my name is Donna Martinez nee Baugh. Until today I had no idea that your book titled Mid-Air Moose Jaw existed. My father,s name was Rupert Don Baugh and he was an unfortunate passenger on that fatal flight. I have heard different causes of the accident from inexpiernced rookie military pilot,s fault to commercial flights flying too low. I was 2 when my father was killed, I have 4 older siblings and we lost a great father and husband that day and what really really really hurts is to find out that some first on the scene people actually robbed the victims before covering them up. I was appauled and still am because we were robbed too of precious momentos that could have been returned to us. Shame on them! I have not read your book perhaps someday. Admin reply: Newspaper reports of looting for the most part were erroneous. The police assigned reputable citizens to guard the bodies and collect valuables which in turn were turned over to the police. No charges for looting were ever laid.

Just watched the documentary on the History Channels, until now I had no idea, the Harvard trainer is still used annually to fly over Preston Ontario's Canada Day Parade. Admin reply: The Harvard currently used is not the same type of aircraft. The two are similar in name only.

As witness to the crash It brought back a lot of memories, I was in the gang at Tech who went outside for a smoke and witnessed the whole scene, some of the guys ran to the site and were the first ones there, strange no one has ever interviewed these guys eh? glad a lot of goofy rumours were cleared up in the book. Admin reply: Thanks for your posting. At least 128 people witnessed this mid-air collision. Very few people however saw the airliner hit the house. Investigators interviewed many witnesses which assisted in the three Boards of Inquiry. Anyone reading the book who was a witness is encouraged to contact me as I continue to collect more information for a possible 2nd volume. While height is very difficult to estimate most witnesses said the collision occured 6,000 feet above the ground.
